Shavuot 2022
Saturday, June 4, 2022 • 5 Sivan 5782
7:00 PM - 11:00 PMIn-Person at TBJShavuot 2022!!!!
On Shavuot, we celebrate receiving Torah at Mount Sinai. The tradition is to stay up all night studying Torah, just as our ancestors stayed up all night preparing to meet God and receive Torah. That, in and of itself, might not interest you. So here's the other part of Shavuot: It's all about eating dairy, like cheesecake, cheese blintzes, and ice cream. Why? Because the Israelites were like infants as they stood at Mount Sinai. Infants drink milk. So we celebrate with more sophisticated forms of dairy.
We will celebrate Shavuot on Saturday night, June 4, at 7:00 pm. We'll begin with a service with Rabbi Robin and Cantor Shira, which will be followed with a dairy oneg, with thanks to the Religious Practices Committee. (I hear there will be traditional cheesecake, gluten free cheesecake, and even dairy free cheesecake.) While noshing, Rabbi Robin will do some teaching -- not all night, but for maybe one or two hours. Come for the entire evening or a part of it. If you stay for the teaching, be prepared to read your birthday Torah portion, to go shopping for God, and to contribute a verse to a collective poem.
Please contact Rabbi Robin if you have any questions.
Chag Shavuot Sameach!
